Phase 1 includes category of people - Obesity (BMI>30) - 2,022,096 people. MD total population is about 6 million. 1/3 of people in Maryland are obese. I'm originally from out west, and this is shocking to me. I did notice more obese people when I moved here, but this is a shocking number.
Phase 3 includes "People aged 18-30 minus potential other categories", and "People aged 30-65 without an underlying condition and not addressed in previous stages" is TBD That seems wrong to me. Middle aged people are more at risk of complications from covid than 18 to 30. I don't understand this part of the plan. |
| Does this mean that, barring underlying health conditions, people who are 18 are treated the same as people who are 64? |
| 18-30 and especially college kids are vectors for transmission. Yes its mot fair that those who have seemingly controllable issues like obesity and being irresponsible like the college kids are ahead in line than those who are keeping healthy and complying with distance orders. But this is whwt needs to be done for the populqtion as a whole. The vaccine is not a reward for good behavior but a disease control method. |
I guess so. But then not sure why they have two separate groups called out for it. Why not just "18 to 64 who otherwise have no underlying condition". |
Maryland is in the middle of the pack, average for the US. https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/prevalence-maps.html Have you ever been to Mississippi? |
no, I have never been to MS. Compared to out west, MD obesity rate is shocking. But yea, I hear ya. It's tied to education level. https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/prevalence-maps.html |
| I'd be in Phase I because I'm obese. It is what it is. In practical terms, how would we know where and when to go get vaccinated? |
Go dc! |
So many people do not understand this. Hence, the outrage about prisoners, young people, and people with obesity. At any rate, this document seems like a draft. There may still be changes. |
