Fresh masa for tamales (masa preparada)

I think I know my answer, but has anyone had any luck finding fresh masa to make tamales in DC or the inner suburbs? Closest I know about is in Manassas and Baltimore.

You can find dry masa harina at most grocery stores. Just add lard and salt.

+1. It’s everywhere I shop. Easy to make, which is what we do.

I was looking for fresh masa, not maseca. Agreed that it’s a good alternative. Thanks!

Hey All- this is the owner of Cielo Rojo. Please don’t use above links to order masa. That was an old online store that we don’t use anymore. The good news is that now we sell masa all the time on our regular online take out platform! Here is the newest link (and now you can order for same day/quick turn around pickup!)

We sell heirloom corn masa every day. We mill it in-house daily and rotate different varieties from small farmers in Mexico (primarily Oaxaca). If you’re making tamales, you’d have to add fat to our masa. It can be used for tortillas, tamales, huaraches, gorditas and more!

Buy dried white corn and make it yourself. It is super easy and worth it. Don’t use maseca.
