ACPS Family Choice (Virtual our Hybrid)

Anonymous
Curious if other families chose virtual or hybrid, and the grades of your child(ren).

We picked hybrid for our fifth grader, but I’m doubtful they will actually return this year, at least not in Jan/Feb.

I thought ACPS already said they were definitely not going back this year?

They are going through the motions to appease people, but I can't imagine they will reopen.

I picked hybrid, 6th, and on the very slim chance that we do go back, would reverse and demand to go back to virtual, if they in fact go with three asynchronous days for kids in hybrid. In the FAQs section, they say that is one possibility, though it doesn't seem to be the desired one.

No, they definitely did NOT say that, although it is certainly a possibility.

Bump this up. The form is due today and I am still not quite decided. Can you change the decision later?

5,9,10 grades. Hybrid.

Although 9th grader may stay virtual as MH a dump.

No confidence will go back this year, all depends on APS and FCPS.

The land of the free. You can do anything you want. As long as you don’t violate others nor the rule of law.

Kindergartener and 3rd, hybrid for both.

Yes, you can change your decision later.

I picked hybrid for both of my kids (4th and 1st). If it turns out we go back and their teachers don’t go back I’ll probably switch back. No point sending them in to sit in a classroom watching a teacher on the screen.

The form is non binding.

+ 1. Both of my kids' teachers have huge possibilities to stay Virtual. I don't want them to be in a class just watching a screen.

We picked virtual. Frankly I don't trust most of the parents in our neighborhood to do things that will keep their kids from being asymptomatic carriers -and- to teach their kids appropriate behavior like social distancing and wearing masks.

I also think that ACPS will melt like ice cream in the 100 degree sun as soon as some momma with a bee in her bonnet gets upset because Larlo was asked to wear his mask over his nose and refused. I saw the video where someone said the protocol will be that the teacher is supposed to call for an administrator to deal with the problem kids like that. In the meantime, while they are waiting for an administrator to appear, my kid is sitting in the room with the miscreant who is trying to be cute. Not cool.

Couple all that with the lunatics on FB as part of the #OpenACPS movement...you gotta be kidding if you think I want my kids with that group.

We'll wait. DL is working great for us. Our kids are happy and having a blast at home. We're gonna keep doing what we're doing.

They won’t be missed if anything like you. I’d bet your kids can’t wait to get out of the house.

Soooooo...instead of putting forth a factual point you chose to attack the poster and his kids. I think the poster has the right of it. Interesting that you think that is appropriate to mock and demean as part of an adult discussion.

Exactly. No need to attack here. Every family will make a decision that works best for their kids. I wanted to pick hybrid, but knowing my kid's teacher might not return, I decided on DL. Because the information ACPS gave out now is just not enough to convince me this concurrent model will work well. I would rather to take a backseat now then to re-assess in 8 weeks.
