With all the bus stops filled up with snow, maybe people could adopt a bus stop and shovel one out. I see so many people standing in the street who would otherwise be standing on the sidewalk at the bus stop, but there is no place to stand. Or adopt a fire hydrant and dig it out in case it is needed.

| Good idea. Have you done this? |
| Not the OP, but I did shovel out the fire hydrant. |
| We're shoveling out two Fairfax Connector bus stops tomorrow. Wish us luck, as I know that snow is rock hard. |
| Op here, I shoveled the fire hydrant, an elderly neighbor and plan to do a bus stop on University Blvd in Silver Spring tomorrow. I shoveled the elderly neighbor with rock hard snow and it was easier just make rectangles the size of the snow shovel. |
| I'd love to see Fenty and Obama out there helping out. That would be a great PR and photo op. |
I've been doing this and found it really isn't as hard as I thought. The crust on top is hard, but once you get past that, it is still pretty light snow underneath. |

OK OP here, done. A little harder than I expected due to snow plow crust. Did about 35-40 feet. You definitely need a metal shovel. I used a metal snow shovel + an additional other metal shovel. I am an out of shape, fat, middle aged mom, so if I can do it younger people can do it. My husband took care of child care while I got a little exercise with the shoveling. Probably would have been more fun if I could use one of the Bobcat skid steer loader to shovel the sidewalk.
Next on my list, is shovel the drain at the end of the street where the snow is going to eventually melt into. |

Good job! I'm a nanny who would love to offer my childcare services (one date night) for free. I have references and am background checked on sittercity.com.

| I shoveled out another spot today, on the route my kids walk to school. The snowplow crust was over my shoudlers! I brought the kids along and told them it was a lesson in how to do something that looks impossible. By just shovelling off a few layers at a time, all of a suddent the job looked like it could actually be accomplished, and then it started to be fun -- getting down to pavement. |
