Expectant and Postpartum Moms
So, I am 32 weeks and have already gained 25 lbs -- what I wanted to gain for the whole pregnancy. Is it more common to really pack on the weight in the end or for weight gain to slow down in the end? I've heard both and am obviously hoping for this to slow down but my most significant gains have been in the past 5 weeks, so early third trimester!
Please, I've gained 50! For me, the weight slowed during the second trimester and picked up again in the third slowly. I have 5 weeks left and I have a feeling I'll gain at least another 5 before the end.
i gained 15 or maybe a little more in the first trimester. then about a pound a week up until week 34, and then nothing after that. i think everyone is different.
A lot of women really slow their weight gain in the 3rd trimester, unless you retain a lot of water, which also happens mostly in the 3rd trimester. I gain less than 1/2 a pound a week in the 3rd trimester, until I start to really retain water.
OP, I'm like you--was 25 lbs at about the 32 mark. Since then I've been packing on about 2 lb/wk, like most schedules I've seen say. No way around it, so I've just tried to shrug it off.

With my first I gained most of my weight in the 3rd trimester, but it was primarily baby and water weight (lost all pregnancy weight within a week of delivering so I assume it was mostly water). With this baby I gained consistently until the 3rd trimester and now haven't gained anything in 6 weeks (I'm 36 weeks). At least my experience is that it depends on how much water you end up retaining. Remember that your baby is packing on the pounds these last few weeks so some weight gain is definitely to be expected!
Everyone is different in how/when they gain. I gained nothing in the first tri, but by 32 weeks I had put on at least 24 lbs. I gained a total of 30 lbs (and I went to almost 42 weeks) so weight loss definitely slowed in the end. Lost 23 of it within 2 weeks of giving birth, still carrying around the extra 7# 2 months pp (i am breastfeeding, not really dieting, but exercising moderately.) I fit into pre preg pants (albeit they're a bit tighter) but the tops are all small--both boobs and rib cage are larger.
