You may want to learn more about their model. The point is not too hire Poindexter McNerdy to go preach to guys making bad choices. They hire people who have a background on the streets because they understand the issues.

The crime he committed was before he was hired. I'm sure they regret that particular one, but it seems like a risk you have to take off your going to make that model work.

Now he was caught and arrested. The system will do what it needs to ensure justice. But I don't see that as a reason to criticize the violence interrupters.

Ive sometimes thought there was something a little weird about the whole do not as I did strategy..i can see it being...somewhat effective.
Theres an element of your parents who smoked pot telling you not to smoke pot though. Personally, why not have Poindexter McNerdy roll up in his sweet ride and lecture the kids about how to get a nice job like his and escape the streets? It would be nice if successful AAs, but any group, went back to the streets to mentor + inspire. Thats a program id like to see subsidized by the city. What happened to Big Brother?

^^upper class black people mentor and support folks in distressed communities all. the. time. There are literally hundreds, iof Black led organizations that do this.

And while these organizations exist they receive a small fraction of philanthropic funds so there's that issue as well.

It is not enough for the depth and complexity of these types of problems.

Because poindexter McNerdy is going to get mugged and carjacked if he goes around Barry Farms talking about how much money he makes because of his good decisions

To answer your question, OP, yes. Yes, the prosecutors put on their payroll a drug-dealing murderer as a “violence interruptor.” When police released video related to yet another murder, he was apparently identified by a witness, but not the prosecutors for whom he worked.

Somehow, there is a violent crime problem in DC.

Apparently there is a need for more. So perhaps that is what local.government should be paying for, though if its volunteer the costs woyld be lower.

Just going to guess that you're not the focus of Violence Interruption programs?

Do you know how powerful both working together would be?

Wait until you hear what certain police officers have done. I'm sure you're OUTRAGED that DC hired them, and, in fact, even has a police force.

This is yet another reason (as if we needed any more) for defunding police

Former DCPS High School Teacher Here,

It's been my experience that the teachers who have a little "edge" to them do a better job reaching the kids than those who don't. "Real recognizes real" as they say.
