Fire pit recommendations

Thinking about getting a fire pit for the winter - would prefer something smaller, portable and with propane(not wood burning). Any recommendations?

Propane fire pits are as lame as a bowl of plastic fruit on a dining room table.

This. Get a smokeless wood firepit.

I was at a friend's house this past weekend. They had both. The propane one was lame, kept cutting out, lava rocks would go flying. Better heat from the wood burning. Yes, we smelled like smoke but I was scared to sit next to the propane one.

Lol, ok fine. Happy to hear out recommendations on wood burning fire pits that are less smoky.

We have a 55gal burn barrel. Yes, definitely low class living but enjoy burning woods outside when it gets cold.

We have a Solo Stove Bonfire. It's great. Burns wood quickly though.

Most people I know have propane ones, us included. They are wonderful. I have never experienced lava rocks exploding or other hazards that people mention. The propane only cuts out if your tank is empty. I am getting ready to replace our lava rocks with fire glass stones because I like the look.

Is a nice propane firepit ok for cooking s'mores? I.e. would the filler stones be ok getting dirty/replaced? I was looking at a few this week so I'm happy to see this thread. I don't want the smoke issues (asthma) from wood but if propane fire is just for show that isn't for me either.

We have the Pop-Up Fire Pit. It is wood burning but its collapsible and portable so its very easy to store. It is slightly smaller than a camp chair when folded up.

I agree, we have been happy with ours. I have found that, even with the smokeless one that our neighbor has, our daughter's hair smells smoky after sitting near it.

We have a solo bonfire and a propane standup patio heater. Great! Very little smoke of you just burn logs and not every twig on the yard like my DH insists on doing.

How much heat do they throw off? Do you get a nice feeling of warmth sitting around one?
