Fire pit recommendations

We have both, the wood burning firepit is better for warmth, but you smell like smoke afterwards (I won't go to bed without showering after being at ours - the smok gets everywhere, in your clothes, your hair, etc).

The propane one is fine, and will last about 4 hours on high from a 20 gallon propane tank. Not as warm as burning wood, but we sat around it, carefully roasted marshmallows (don't want them to drop on the gas mechanism), and had a nice evening with our smores and spiked cider keeping warm in the crockpot.

I prefer the propane

We got a propane one...https://www.amazon.com/Klismos-Outdoor-Propane-52000BTU-Backyard/dp/B07Z1B7YNZ/ref=sr_1_6?c=ts&dchild=1&keywords=Outdoor+Fire+Pits&qid=1606868253&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A10044118011&s=lawn-garden&sr=1-6&ts_id=14107621

I love it because it cools super quickly so we can put it back in the garage (we don't have a place to leave it outside to burn down.)

We have both and I see the benefit of each. I definitely like the wood more, but if I have 20 mins, it's nice to turn it on, enjoy it and not come in the house smelling like smoke

We got a propane fire table. It's definitely a little bit lame. It doesn't have that nice wood smell, it doesn't look as pretty as a wood fire, and if you burn the marshmallows, they taste a little bit like propane.

BUT, it's so fast and easy. We can use it at any time. It takes under a minute to get going and then the kids can go out and make s'mores. We can sit around the fire for half an hour (or 15 minutes, or 5), and be done. It's plenty warm. Also, if you care about that sort of thing, MoCo regulations say that a wood burning fire pit needs to be at least 20 feet away from the house, and our yard will not accommodate that.

This is the one we got. It's totally fine. The four of us fit around it nicely. The edge of the table is good for setting down a glass or the plate of s'mores fixings. The propane tank is nicely hidden under the table, and it came with both a lid and a cover. My only complaint is that the cover is super lightweight and blows right off at the slightest breeze, so you need something to hold it down.

We have a propane fire table. It’s great and puts off a fair bit of heat. Very cozy and convenient. We have it on a covered porch where it wasn’t possible to use a wood burning pit. Guests love it and two have since bought their own. I never thought I’d like a propane fire feature and wouldn’t consider a gas fireplace inside the home, but this was the only solution for our needs and it works.

We have both and I prefer propane unless we are making a night of it then I’ll go with wood. I definitely have to shower after the wood pit.

Ok, DCUM, I hope you’re right. I bought one of these last night (won’t be delivered till the new year!)

I'll be the sole dissenter -- I don't like the solo stove. I find it burns through wood too fast and throws the heat into a vertical column. You have to be sitting VERY close to the fire to get warm. I prefer a regular cheap fire pit, even though there is more smoke.

You're not alone. If I want a fire, I want a FIRE! We have something like this. It's great.

I couldn't imagine hovering over that little solo pit, sitting elbow to elbow, trying to roast marshmallows or hot dogs. When we have a fire, we have a crowd all spread out, and you can easily be sitting 6 to 8 feet from the pit and still enjoying the heat. Even in social distancing times, we can have 4 to 6 couples over to sit in the yard and enjoy a toasty evening.

If your solo stove isn't raging you are not using it properly. most people are afraid to have flames shooting a few feet above it but that is that it is how it supposed top be used.

The propane only cuts out if your tank is empty. I am getting ready to replace our lava rocks with fire glass stones because I like the look.

Literally everybody I know has wood burning firepits. Propane is for the souless.

Interesting. Everyone I know must be soulless. Everyone I know has propane. I will say that wood burning is much cheaper to purchase.

We a have a rectangular steel one (6' x 3' x 18") that puts out 75,000 BTU. It's very warm, nothing explodes or sputters. And nobody has to shower after sitting by it.

I haven't noticed the propane taste on marshmellows.

The other thing I like about our propane one is that my 11 year old can safely operate it with minimal supervison. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable leaving him and his friends outside on their own for a few hours with a solo stove.
