Getting a driver's license in Virginia

| DS is now 15 and a half. We've got an appointment for the written test for the permit. I'm confused though - does he need to do online driver's school before he gets his permit? Will he need to show proof that's he has taken it? Or can he get his permit and then go to online school ? I've seen what's written on the website but I'm still confused. |

| No. He doesn’t need to do anything before he gets his learners permit except study for the test. |

| He can get the permit before in class instruction. Our DS got his permit in April 2019 then took in class drivers ed June 2019. He took behind the wheel Nov/Dec 2019 and was able to drive solo January 2020. He had his court appointment in February 2020 where he received his hard copy drivers license |
