My young teenager has gotten really into golf this year. A family member is teaching him how to play.
I'd like to fill his stocking with small golf related gifts, and maybe get a couple slightly bigger things. Suggestions? |
| golf balls, tees, place markers, small towel or bag, hat/visor, shoes, shirts, shorts, gift card to a local course he hasn't been to. |
Thanks! |
Gift certificate for golf lessons. |
| My son too. I am getting him a caddy for his golf bag so he can walk the course more easily. |
| Indoor putting green |
| Bought my grandson a $5000 gift certificate for golf lessons at OakMar rec center in Oakton. Good for 50 1-hour private lessons |

Thought I would chime in with advice as someone who has actually played golf, not just deals out random advice (golf tees and a towel? really? don't do that). Some legit golf items, most can be found on amazon. These are all legit options from someone who plays a lot of golf and who has kids that play as well.

Thank you! Can I ask you a few questions? I was thinking of maybe getting this as a joint gift for the kids. I thought maybe they could play together? https://www.amazon.com/Golf-Pool-Indoor-Carbon-Fiber/dp/B00F8H8EVC Do you think that's going to be as effective as the indoor putting green? I'm wondering if it will get more use if his younger siblings play with him. Also, for the practice balls, how much space would you need to be safe? We don't have a huge yard. |

A range finder:

I think the Hearthsong putting green is definitely geared toward younger kids. What about a swing evaluation at Golftec? https://www.golftec.com/ |
He's the oldest, our kids range from 6 - 13, so something he could do with younger siblings would actually be good, unless it would be harmful to his playing. We're really lucky that we have a family member who is very into golf, and wants to teach him, so we aren't doing lessons at this point. |

As a golfer, I don’t love gadgets. I don’t even use a rangefinder. Things I would like:
-Clubs. Wedges aren’t too expensive, and I have several putters. -Having my old clubs regripped. - Gloves. I go through a lot of them. I only use Footjoy StaSof - Balls. But I don’t play with three piece balls, and actually prefer quality two piece balls. - Range gift cards / tokens. - Golf apparel, including shoes. Clubs are still my favorite, though, especially hybrids. They can be handed down to others and also used for friends to play with me. |

Thanks! I'm thinking balls, and gloves for his stocking, and a pair of golf shoes for under the tree. Does that sound good?
Does investing in golf clubs for a 13 year old boy make sense? He's got feet like a St. Bernard puppy right now, and everyone tells me to expect that he'll grow like 6 inches in the net year. He's been playing with hand me down clubs from a cousin, and I'm wondering if it makes more sense to hold off a year for a set of his own. Or am I overestimating the importance of height. |
Height matters a lot. If he's really into it, maybe see if you can find a used set, but if the hand-me-downs are working, I'd hold off on a new set and let him grow some more. |
