| 16 year old DD used to make money babysitting frequently pre-pandemic. Now, she doesn’t babysit because of the virus, but still wants to make money. Any ideas for teen jobs right now that are COVID-safe? Restaurants and grocery stores are out. |
|
I’ve seen some receptionist jobs in nursing homes.
Not sure why grocery stores are out. My teen has been working in grocery stores throughout the pandemic and I haven’t seen anything that concerns me. |
| Thanks! |
| My teen DD worked at a hardware store all summer and did not catch it. We're in Los Angeles so a high risk area. She was always in a mask, customers were always in a mask, and when at the cash register she was surrounded by plexiglass. |
| My dd had worked in 2 different restaurant kitchens since March. She thinks the “back of the house” jobs feel very safe as it’s just a few people, always masked, can give each other distance. |
| I think if the work culture is good about masking, most places are relatively safe. I have family that live up in Harford County, and employees often don't wear masks. Or wear it down around their chin, doing no good. I wouldn't shop there, much less let my kid work there. |
| Mine watches 2 ES sisters from 3-5 (more 9n mcps holidays). That family (parents both work from home as do we) are part of our quarantine bubble |
| Does she play any sports or willing to run a little outside? We know a few parents paying for what is basically sports babysitting. Get our young kids outside and active. It doesn’t have to be high level of training but they think it’s cool to shoot baskets, kick a soccer ball, work out outside, etc with a teen. She can make a lot of money! Huge demand for this. |
| Ours works as a lifeguard at an indoor pool. Most of the duties--CLEANING! I love it!!!! |
| Our Ds has worked fast casual since September. Most of his friends are working the same, fast food, grocery stores, or places like Lowes/Home Depot |
Yep. My 18 year old worked at Home Depot until he left for college. Really no job, unless done online from home, will be "safe." If the job requires interaction with anyone, there will be risk. |
| It would be safer to just babysit for one family. |

My child has been working part time retail for months. It really helps that she can get out of the house and be around others and some kids her age. Lots of others teens working there as well.
But the fact that you are asking this question means you have real medical anxiety and you should check in with your doctor for help. You have lost the ability to apply logic to situations and have let overwhelming fear take hold. |
PP, there is a deadly pandemic. OP is right to worry. If she was not worried, that would be a sign of mental illness. |
Whoa, that's a little extreme! It's not like the teen needs the job to survive and has no other options. How about supervising outdoor playdates/outings for kids who are old enough that they don't need hands-on care but can't just go play at a park on their own? Picking the child(ren) up/returning just outside the front door and playing games that are relatively socially distanced? |
