DC2 does all of her naps in the swing. She is sleep trained for nights in the crib, so can fall asleep on her own there, but has yet to nap in the crib in the daytime...so there would have to be some nap training and mild (hopefully) cry/fuss it out. Her swing naps are a good length.
With DC1, I remember that nap training took a week or two, but then we were in a weird period until he could consolidate naps, moving from 4 to 3 naps--basically one 1.5 hour morning nap and 3 45 minute naps until he was 5.5 months. He was okay but often tired b/c of all of the short naps. I do remember nap training also being kind of a pain. I'm lazy. (Or more like, tired from having kids and beginning to work without childcare) The swing is working, it's so easy...but I guess she'll start rolling soon and then I should really get her out of the swing, and crib naps are supposed to be better, more restorative naps. I should nap train her, huh? (Basically I need help to get off my butt!) But part of me is just tempted to wait another 6 weeks or so, until she's closer to having a more solid, consolidated afternoon nap. |
(If it wasn't obvious from the title, she's 16 weeks)
The part of the brain that controls nap sleep doesn't mature until six months, so you can't really nap train till then.
sorry i should have clarified--by nap training, i mean more like training baby to fall asleep on her own in the crib, vs the swing. so i know that the naps won't be totally consolidated (maybe can get morning nap, but afternoon nap till 5-6 months). with DC1, we trained so he could fall asleep on his own in the crib starting around...4 months? some mild cry/fuss it out, took a week or two but it def took some effort.

4 months was when naps started to go to hell for both my kids. If you can safely ride this time out in the swing, I say go for it...
Or maybe do AM in the swing, and then try PM in the crib? |
I’d do it. Rolling could come anytime and then you’ll have to try anyway.
I don’t know what “training” is but yes, I’d start putting her in her crib for naps whenever possible.
If she already does nights in the crib I bet it won’t be a big deal.
All sleep for babies should be on their back on a flat surface because of the risk of positional asphxiation.
Yes. At four months you baby definitely needs freedom of movement.
