Bethesda Shut Down?

Anonymous
Our club was told BSC was shut down due to Covid and they were unable to play their scheduled games, yet we saw their boys' teams playing, girls' teams practicing, etc... If they weren't shut down why didn't they play games this past weekend?

Huh?
Many Bethesda teams were in tournaments this past weekend.

They paused majority of the day to day stuff until December 1st, and then will reassess then. Practices, local ecnl games, etc were paused.

Its because of the ever changing Moco regulations.

So, a week.

Many clubs that experience COVID outbreaks have 'shut down' one or two teams but not necessarily the whole club. That might have been what they were talking about.

For example, Team X has a covid positive and they played our U13 team a week ago. Since that game, our U13 team played a scrimmage with the U13 second team, and shared a practice field with the U14 team. Our club shut down those three teams for 14-days.

To summarize other info from this site:

1) Bethesda Boys Tournament was shut down.
2) The week before the Girls Tournament happened with a team from PA. At least one girl from a PA team tested positive reportedly. That team played one game.

There may be players or teams from BSC that are not allowed to play either because of positive test or potential exposure. (Likely unrelated to tournament.)

Best way for outsiders to tell this is when scheduled games don't happen.

That does not mean the club is shut down!

OK reading above apparently they were shut down by MOCO.

the county didnt shut them down. pausing until december 1st.

2 ecnl games per team will be rescheduled, and practices on hold until then. this is a good thing- to give everyone a break and reassess based on mocos new regulations that were put out last week.

Also, AA County and B County closed all youth sports. Given that MUFC and Pipeline are based in those two counties and that MD is on NJ's do not travel list, it will be hard for Bethesda to schedule ECNL games.

Local government is local government. They don't shut you down. They prevent you from activities within the scope of their jurisdiction. They cannot prevent you from playing outside of it. Hence, whatever MoCo did with BSC in MoCo does not prevent them from playing tournaments elsewhere, or even hosting them elsewhere.
