Pick-me-ups during a covid winter

Anonymous
Let's share some little things that make us feel good and will help us make the best of this winter during covid. I'm already need more ideas to lift myself out of these sad moods I've been getting in as it gets darker and thinking about everyone in the country who is struggling right now. My go tos are...

- candles - one scented candle and little glass votives with beeswax candles
- jazz - Miles Davis, Kind of Blue
- an extra cozy, heavy faux fur blanket
- warm lamp light instead of overhead lights
- helping others, donating to causes like local food banks

What is working for you?

Many of the things you listed. I am upping my cardio and going outside as much as possible during the day. Upping my cardio also helps me sleep better which is good overall. Also using the time to cook a little more comfort food.

OP here. Thank you so much for these suggestions! I just placed an order with a local bookstore for 3 books for me (and 3 for my daughter) and then shopped my basement for something to read in the meantime.

I have a goal of getting outside to walk daily, but have been having trouble finding time on workdays with distance learning for the kids while it's light out, and then today just couldn't get my mind right when scheduling worked to get out. Tomorrow is another chance to try again.

What sorts of luxurious beauty products? I have treated myself to some eye cream and it does feel nice to indulge my skin every day. I also painted my nails a nice minky-brown yesterday and it makes me feel more put together.

I also got a few cookbooks and a new pan and am looking forward to trying some new recipes. Do you have a favorite comfort food to make?

Please keep the ideas coming!

Over the summer I ignored the high price of cherries and bought them often. I will buy as many Sumos and other short season citrus as I can eat.

22:16 here. I forgot... last year I forced paperwhite and amaryllis bulbs and it was wonderful when they bloomed.

Reading a good book or periodical in a warm, cozy bed.

Or watching a good YouTube video or movie there as well.

I like when it is cold, maybe even raining outside & I am inside my heated little apartment doing whatever I want, when I want knowing that I get to sleep in as late as I want the next day. 😀

This sounds lovely, and I want an orangerie. (Does it have to be a greenhouse or solarium?)

For me, taking vitamins every day, long walks, doing a yoga video, reading historical fiction (Circe and The Song of Achilles were two recent favorites). I've also been knitting, which I hadn't really done since childhood.

I just bought a manicure kit from Olive and June. I want to buy a big fuzzy blanket and some nice tea. Looking for an art class to take online with some friends. Doing lots of baking.
