I realize it has been an unusually warm Fall, but it might be nice to let people know what is still blooming in your DMV yard so they can think about what to plant next spring.
Currently in my yard, my pineapple sage is about four feet tall and full of bright red blossoms, and it had overwintered from last year. Also still blooming: native geranium, roses, black and blue salvia, red salvia, rudbekia, obedient plant, toad lily, marigolds. What is making your late fall garden lovely? |
| My dozen varieties of salvia were doing beautifully but Thursday’s hard frost finally killed them. Dahlias and cannas gave up about 2 weeks ago. The rudbeckia, cardinal flower and coneflowers were done long ago. I see lots of hardy mums and asters blooming profusely now. |
| Mums, pansies, and snapdragons are keeping things bright in our garden! |
| My irises bloomed again. |
| Roses are still going, but small and few. |
| Saw some cherry trees blooming on some side streets, the tinny flower kind but wow! |
| My red camellias are just hitting their stride. Everything else is shot. |
| My calibrachoa is still blooming, to my great surprise. Though it is on my covered patio, so it’s getting a bit of shelter, but still! Just wouldn’t expect it to keep going through December. |
My landscaper put a large one right outside my door and it’s covered in hot pink. Very festive! She put three miniatures around our patio which also add some color, very hardy. |
| Planted bulbs a few weeks ago — they’re not blooming but I see shoots coming up already! Assume frost will eventually out an end to those. |
|
I walk past some amazing Dahlias every morning still. I have this crazy hydrangea that somehow still has very attractive flowers - they turned from pink to dark green tinged with maroon. And I see camelias but I feel like they don’t really thrive here compared to the west coast.
|
when did those snapdragons go in? do they have a second bloom? |
I saw that, too, and one of my azaleas keeps blooming. |
|
Ugh. My Coneflowers are blooming again. My lilacs have buds. My roses still blooming . .
. hoping none of these are killers for the spring/summer.
|
They went in only about a month ago, not sure how long they’ll last and if they’ll come back next year! |
