Does your DC appear to gag themselves?

DS is going on 5 months now. Yes he shoves everything in his mouth, now but he seems to be making himself gag/throw up. I've heard of kids doing this to get attention. It couldn't start this early could it?

My 4 month old does it. I don't think its for attention, I just think they're in the oral stage and in our case also teething so she frantically jams things into her mouth but hasn't learned that jamming them too far in makes her gag. Doesn't seem to bother her either because she gags, makes a face and then just jams whatever it was back into her mouth

i agree. mine 15 week old does the same thing now. He jams his hands in his mouth and sometimes gags. I dont think its on purpose. it happens sometimes too when i'm trying to give him a pacifier (which he won't take).

mine daughter did this at 4-6 months and the doc said she has discovered her mouth/hands and not to worry about it. She actually made herself throw up and few times and would giggle about it. Don't worry it stopped

My DS (17 weeks) does this, too. I'm not worried about it, but would be if he did it so frequently that I needed to worry about dehydration or nutrition.

My DD used to do it, it's just a phase. Relax

LOL OP calm down...
use physiological aspects to get attention - gagging, throwing up, stop breathing, blacking out - starts after 24 months

Babies have a crazy gag reflex. I mean crazy. It's great for safety.

But your chid is just too young to catch on "hey, I put something in my mouth and then I gag"

My son only did it during meal times, and I finally figured out he was ravenous. When he finally felt satiated, he would slow down and stop the shoving and gagging that went along with it. I fed him solids more often, but I think he also outgrew it in a few months.
