APS metrics?

Anonymous
I watched the meeting and looked at the presentation. But I still have NO IDEA what actual measures APS is going to use to reopen now.

Anyone?

Which way is the wind blowing? Seems to be an ever moving target.

They are clearly backing off metrics out of pressure from Open Schools Now fanatics. They will open when the pressure gets too high. Like with sports. It’s not an improvement. And now they want middle and high school parents to “choose” virtual or hybrid with absolutely no info on what they consider to be the safe categories of metrics. “Trust us.” How on earth does a parent (a parent who actually wants to assess risk, not a “kids belong in school no matter what parent) choose with no info about when they’d pull the trigger.

APS metrics were full of crap. Everyone was using their own county Covid and hospital admission rates as a metric , APS was using the entire NOVA region. Totally useless and designed on purpose to keep schools closed.

Ok. But now they appear to have no metrics whatsoever re when they will return. Just a list of what’s happening and where it falls on the CDC spectrum. But no idea what colors on the CDC chart they think are safe to start school. That doesn’t seem like an improvement.

No you don't want to "assess risk". If you did, you would already have done so and know that the risk is low.
Get some help for your anxiety.

And now the OpenUpNow folks who are responsible for us being in this current mess have shown up.

Thanks for nothing.

Yeah. Anyone who isn’t rushing back to school has anxiety issues. That’s it. Thank you!

Yup. We are now in a place where if I want to know the conditions under which my school system will open I have anxiety?

Yes. You should just be demanding that they open immediately. Any request for details or questions are indicative of your emotional problems. It can’t possibly be that normal people might WANT to send their kids but still want more information about safety. That’s where we are.

Yes and especially rich when we HAD metrics but the OPEN UP NOW crowd successfully lobbied to get rid of them because they thought they were "too conservative."

How they can abandon any metrics whatsoever is beyond me. The CDC has the damn metrics. All APS has to say is what color code the plan to use for what groups. I get a vague sense that the won’t bring middle and high back til it’s at least “light green” (“lower risk”) since the CDC warns against mixing groups of students at moderate risk levels and higher. And maybe moderate risk for upper elementary? But I’m guessing since APS seems to have left us to guess this part of their plan to satisfy Open Schools Now. It’d be nice if the parents who are interested in metrics and science could get as much response from APS. But they’ve always caved to the screamers.

I’m trying to understand how aps has ‘caved to the screamers’ in open schools now in any sense of the word. The schools are closed, with no return dates. The only students allowed in are severely disabled students for assistance with virtual learning.

By abandoning metrics. Did Open Schools Now not demand metrics, get them, then demand APS abandon them, and then APS abandoned them? Did they also demand APS cave on opening winter sports, even while schools are closed? Did APS change course with no explanation whatsoever? That’s called caving.

They “caved” on winter sports because every other district is doing hyphen and not doing so puts students vying for scholarships at a significant hardship. Not because of a small group of parents.
