Why is Long Island so Republican?

Especially compared to the NJ suburbs, Fairfield, and Westchester. Suffolk voted for Trump and Biden only won Nassau by a few points.

Money. Whiteness.

Blue collar residents. The Democrats have lost them.

General lack of intellect.

Not just blue color. I am from there and all of my siblings voted for Trump. I had to block them all on FB until after the election. White middle class men thinking that "liberals" are trying to take their money and give it to the "minorities". Uneducated with BLM platform.

What’s interesting about Suffolk County in particular? It’s pretty removed from the city. You could ask the same question about Orange or Putnam.

Because Long Island, as far as it is from the city, still associates heavily with the city. People have long commutes to work and are proud of their city connections.

White working class a generation or two away from having been lower middle class in Queens or Brooklyn.

I grew up in Suffolk County (although Dem rather than Republican), most people work in Suffolk/Nassau rather than the city, and many people don’t feel a particular connection to the city, let alone a pride in that. If anything, there’s a certain irritation among many people that we’re constantly lumped in with the city rather than recognized as a separate area with our own needs and interests.

I am from a small town on the North Shore.

Even if people go to college they head back.

Catholic and more Catholic. Abortion for one and basically uneducated blue collar workers afraid the illegals are stealing from them. They think Trump is a good old boy from Queens,NY.

My FB feed is horrible from these lovely Christians who clearly have forgotten their church values. The screaming, violence is just over whelming.

This is nothing new in this particular area. Growing up the racism and anti semitism was horrible then as well.

Statan Island, Catholic voting. Trumpers again uneducated.

I had a completely different experience. I grew up in Huntington, were you further out?

Northport, East Northport and Cold Spring Harbor. Catholic and all Trump idiots. From their FB feeds they are clearly uneducated. Given I went to the same HS it's making me sick!
