| If I got a ticket out of state that Maryland does not transfer the points for, do I still need to report it to my insurance co? It was failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Thanks. |
Just adding my insurance company sent out a form asking if any drivers had received a ticket. I would not be just calling them to confess. |
| I wouldn’t lie to them |
| The points do not carry to MD so I am not sure it is lying? |
| I've never heard of anyone calling their insurance company and telling them about tickets they got. I thought it was on the insurance company to find out about them? |
| You received a ticket. The form doesn’t ask if you received a ticket “in Maryland,” does it? |
| I would ignore the form. You know, all the problems with USPS these days...I guess I never got it. |
| They can't tell if you got a ticket unless you tell them. |
I did. Twenty something years ago, freshly out of college and into the real world, I got my first speeding ticket. My coworker convinced me to call the insurance company. I called my insurance agent, and he said "thank you for calling us, but we don't know what to do with that information." Now, if they ask me, I would tell them that I don't remember and it's their jobs to find out. It's their lazy way to get information to raise your rate. |
This. Or maybe I got it but forgot about the ticket. Who knows? |
Di t he question ask did you receive points that carry to MD? No, it did not. Truthfully answer the question they actually asked. |
|
I would also never voluntarily tell my insurance I got a ticket.
If you are applying for "good driver perks" or something, that's one thing. But if they just are randomly polling you? I'd throw that mail in the garbage. If they really need to know, they'll be persistant. |
| Whatever you do, don't lie. If you don't really want to say anything, do not reply. |
OP's insurance company sent a form asking her to answer the question. If she lies, it will be grounds for denying coverage when she needs it. |
