How best to find part-time child care right now?

While my 7-year old and I have been quarantining with my parents in another state to help with child care and life, I think it would be best for us to come home to DC for a host of reasons. I'm wondering if it will actually be possible to find part-time child care for him at this late stage. I'm basically looking for someone to play with him/take him out from 3:30-6:30pm on M, T, Th and F and to do the same all day on Wednesdays (8:30am-3:30pm). No need to assist with virtual school - it's mostly about getting him out and socializing. How should I go about finding someone and what can I expect to pay? I'm also going to see with some other parents in his grade if they would consider adding us to their after-school pod, as an alternative. Thank you!

That's a really awkward schedule. Even though it's only part time hours, I'd expect to pay full time, or close to full time wages because it would be difficult for someone to fit another part time job around this.

Will you have a yard for them to play in? A friend had luck finding an eighth grader to do this since the mom is home the whole time and the kids are in the backyard - so it’s more like a mother’s helper.

You won’t find a professional nanny at a rate that is worth it.

You may need to hire 2 different people. One for the after school (college student?) , and one for all-day Wednesday (stay at home mom?) . It's just too odd of a schedule.

Try your neighborhood listserv?

And if it’s to cover after school and a day that other kids doing dl have off, you’re competing with families who have multiple kids and can offer more hours.
