Hi ladies,
I’m a federal employee living in VA. I’m starting IVF in January. Any recommendations about which plan will cover the most, i.e monitoring (with the understanding that VA plans don’t cover IVF). We will be treated by Dominion, CCRM, or Shady Grove. I heard that SG will honor Aetna rates. I also read that GEHA will cover portions of ivf, up to 50% (which doesn’t sound right, which is why I’m asking). I know that BCBS will cover monitoring, but we just want a plan that will really cover us as much as possible. Or can recommend a plan just based on your overall general experience? Stay safe. Thanks!! |
| I had GEHA and used Shady Grove. GEHA paid for the consult but after that all of the monitoring etc was part of the “package” at Shady Grove, so it didn’t really matter which insurance you had. |
BCBS will not cover monitoring for IVF, at least they didn’t for me at SGF. |

I have GEHA. The financial coordinator at CCRM told me that GEHA will not cover fertility treatment. I also confirmed this by calling GEHA myself. However, GEHA did cover all of my diagnostic testing, including HSG, blood tests, consultation, etc.
I also read about the Aetna thing at Shady Grove. Trying to figure out if it’s true before open enrollment ends! As an aside, I would recommend that you do not go to CCRM in NoVa for treatment. They are super disorganized. My doctor seems to know what she’s doing but the way the clinic is set up, including the patient portal makes communication confusing and difficult. Just my two cents. |
