Larry Hogan press conference at 5?

He will be appearing with Dr. Salmon. Can’t post a link right now, but it’s on Twitter and FB. Anyone know what he will announce?

I did not see that Dr. Salmon would be there, but he has promised to provide an update on COVID-19.

As far as schools go, I will be interested to hear what he has to say. Here was the original decision metric he offered on August 27 when he declared all schools safe to reopen.

The number of new cases has been steadily rising. The seven day statewide positivity rate was around 2.6% in late September, and today it is 4.21 %. The new cases reported today (almost 1,200) was the highest total since July. Hospitalizations have been rising. At this point, I'm not sure that any of the jurisdictions should have more than very limited in person learning under these metrics, and a few should be entirely virtual.

As of today, at least seven counties in Maryland have positivity greater than 5%.

Allegheny
Dorchester
Garrett
Harford
Prince Georges
Queen Anne's
Somerset

In addition, at least nine counties have more than 15 cases per 100,000 or are very close to it.

Allegheny
Anne Arundel
Baltimore
Baltimore City
Dorchester
PG
Somerset
Washington
Wicomico

The opportunity for in person learning any time soon has probably slipped away for the majority of students in this state. I wish people would take this more seriously.

Where did it say salmon would be there? MCPS BOE meeting about reopening talks tomorrow so I doubt any big announcement about school today (though they already said all schools should open).

Anne Arundel = hybrid learning starting this semester (scheduled to begin 11/19) is no longer happening. This is due to increasing infection rates.

I still haven't found a reference to Dr. Salmon being there. His spokesperson said the following: "In addition to the governor, Marylanders will hear from Dr. David Marcozzi, a member of our Coronavirus Recovery Task Force and COVID-19 Incident Commander for the University of Maryland Medical System."

OP here— I could have sworn that’s what it said on his FB page, but it doesn’t anymore. Don’t know if I misread that, or they removed it

Something fishy is going on...

I’m not able to watch, so if anyone has an update, it would be appreciated.

Summary: Wear the damn mask. Not doing anything else. Kids don’t matter.

Charles was supposed to open on Monday for a very small group of special populations and just cancelled too. They won’t even entertain opening til January now. But people are everywhere, traveling etc. I am so sad for my kid and all the little ones that need in person school. But enjoy that beer at the bar after you get a manicure!

Kids matter which is why we have DL, masks help but they don't fully stop the virus.

If we go on a full quarantine again people will have a bigger fit.

What sacrifices are you willing to make to get schools open safely?

Arguably could be viewed as a veiled threat that restrictions could be imposed if compliance doesn’t improve.

I feel like crying. I give up.

He also leaves it to locals to determine if more restrictions are needed.
