Waugh Chapel Elementary

My daughter is currently at Indian Creek and we love it, but thinking forward to kindergarten I'd like to save some money and switch her over to the local school. Does anyone have experience with this school? The GS rating is a 6 but I'd love to get some updated feedback before we make the switch.

It's an OK school. You might luck up. So last year, our kindergarten class had 22 kids. I hear this year the highest class has 17 kids but that could be because of COVID. Also, if you'll need before/after care, you'll end up paying ($350) if you're lucky enough to get a spot at the school or upwards of $600-$800 for a private daycare for before and after. This is what made my husband and I contemplate going back private because with the hours, we don't need before and after care so we are paying close to the same.

I don't have personal experience, but a good friend has a 5th grader there and loves it. (She also has an older daughter who went there and is now in HS)
I know there was one teacher who she really hated, but other than that she's raved about the teachers and seems to really enjoy being part of the community and helping at the school.

Broadneck High School is now a 6/10 on greatschools.org as well, and that’s one of the most highly regarded schools in Anne Arundel County. Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School is a 7/10, as are a few elementary schools in the Severna Park cluster. From my knowledge, schools in all clusters (Arundel/Broadneck/BCC/Severna Park) used to have 9/10 gs rankings a few years ago, but then gs added an “equity” section that shows how well certain schools are closing the academic achievement gap, and that’s a large part of what has been pushing down the gs ratings for these schools.

Looking at the MD Board of Ed star ratings, Waugh Chapel Elementary School is a 5/5 stars, as is Piney Orchard Elementary and Four Seasons Elementary. No school in the Arundel cluster gets lower than a 4/5 star rating.

Waugh Chapel is an excellent school, and it’s in one of the best high school clusters in AA County.
