cycle getting shorter and shorter

Anonymous
I miscarried at 12 1/2 weeks in October. I have been having periods since November and we are TTC again. My cycles seems to be getting shorter and shorter. Prior to the pregnancy my cycles were around 29 or 30 days consistently. Now they have been 26, 25, and 23 days. I am becoming concerned. I seem to be ovulating at about day 13 or 14, so that is not the problem. I have been playing "Dr. Google" and see that it could be a progesterone problem or maybe a thyroid thing triggered by the miscarriage. I am going to contact my OBGYN, but does anyone have any thoughts/

I am devastated each time my period comes. I conceived on the second month with my daughter and on the first try with the lost pregnancy, so I am really struggling with the fact that this is not only taking a while, but seems very odd.

Any ideas/experiences would be welcome. Thanks.

This has been happening to me too. I talked to an RE, who said that pre-menopausal women begin to have shorter and shorter cycles. It was pretty discouraging. I am older (39). If you are younger, then there is probably another explanation.

You might want to start seeing an acupuncturist. An acupuncturist can help with shorter cycles. I started having uneven cycles when I was TTC and the person I saw straightened them out.

My cycles since my m/c haven't gotten shorter, but I seem to be ovulating earlier, like day 6, when I used to ovulate day 11. Has anyone else had this? It seems really weird to me.

PP - I have had the exact opposite problem! I normally surge around day 10-12 and ovulate by day 13. I surged and ovulated on cd15 this past cycle (my first real cycle since my m/c). Oddly enough, my cycle length ended up exactly the same as usual (25 days), but I had a 10 day luteal phase when they are always 14 days! I asked if abnormal cycles were the norm post-m/c and she said yes. I think that is why most docs recommend waiting a couple of cycles before trying to conceive again, as your cycles take a bit to get back to normal.

As to OP, my cycles have gotten a bit shorter with time. I was always 28 days pre-fibroid surgery 2 years ago. Since surgery, I have either been doing bcps preparing for IVF cycles or actually cycling and have not had many real, natural cycles. When I have had natural cycles, they have tended to be 25-26 days. I have never worried about it, as I have heard that it is only a real concern when the total cycle days get to be in the low 20s.
