This is probably a stupid question but if you camp with your kids, do you buy them different sleeping bags for sleep overs than for camping?

My mom wants to get my kids sleeping bags for Christmas, but I feel like I have to choose between ones shaped like a dinosaur, or ones rated for 30 degree weather.

I just want something simple they can camp with (in moderate weather) and also use for sleep overs.

It’s good to 40 degrees. She has used it camping for Girl Scouts several times and hasn’t complained about being cold.

Check Lands End and LL Bean. We don't do camping in my family, so sleeping bags are only for sleepovers.

DD has used her camping sleeping bag for sleepovers. All the other kids had cutesy sleeping bags not meant for camping. She didn’t seem to care, though. I imagine this varies by kid.

Her feelings may change as she grows up, or as soon as one kid says "how come you don't have a cute sleeping bag like us?"

Same one but get an adult sized one as it will last longer.

We camp a lot. My kids have adult sized sleeping bags, rated to probably 15 degrees? A 30 degree bag will keep you alive in 30 degree weather, but you won't be comfortable! My advice is to go 20-30 degrees colder than the coldest temp you think you will camp in. I also recommend getting adult bags, as the children will grow, and they can keep the bags for a long time.

If you want something lighter, you can double up bags when you camp.

My kid uses his camping bag for sleepovers.
