| I want to buy a few electric blankets to use outside (because patio heaters are hard to find). Does anyone have an affordable blanket that they love and which didn't stop working int the first month of use? I'm surprised by all the Amazon reviews of blankets with 4 star ratings that apparently stopped working very quickly. I'd love to spend $50 or less per blanket (as I have to buy a bunch of them). Thanks. |
| I bought a Brookstone one from Costco a few months ago and It’s been great so far. It’s a king size and has dual controllers which is nice. |

I have an random amazon one that's been great. It's Hyde Lane. I think I bought it for $40 over a month about. It's a perfect outdoor size, not big enough for sleeping, I use it on the couch. I haven't washed it, so I don't know how it washes. And the sherpa material may pick up a lot of leaves from outside, so consider that if it matters.
Are you using them for guests or your household? I probably wouldn't use a blanket my host provided these days. |
| Thanks. These would be used for family for the most part. If they turn to be a success, and we had a guest over who was cold, we'd offer it. We've been doing that with our fleece blankets - we keep a stack of clean ones around and toss them in the washing machine. |

I have one of the regular sunbeam ones and it works well... it's 3 years old now. The issue is that you can't wash them often. I try to only do it 1-2x a year (we only use it in winter). Every time you wash them there's a good chance they won't work again. So it's not a great solution for you to use outside.
What about a porch heater. |

I have sunbeam ones from costco, but I don't find them that warm, I'm not sure how great they would be outside. I also sometimes worry a bit about my kids using that or the heating pad and leaving it, forgetting that it's on.
I think you would be better off with some really thick blankets, the material around the heating wires is thinner and heat radiates up. You could also try heated seat cushions with regular blankets. I think that would work better outside. |
| Got 6 at Costco for like $35 a piece. So far so good. |
| Also getting the Comfy for each family member and a few for guests to sit out with blankets. Should be snug as bugs. |
