Baby Bjorn bouncer and a boppy lounger - you need to have a place to safely put the baby down, which is something I didn’t appreciate at all before our first was born!

A carrier (or two!). My life got so much easier once I started putting the baby in the soft carrier and then just going about my life. You only have a few months at the beginning when they will sleep all the time if you can find a way for them to do it. Some people wind up with babies who will sleep easily in bassinets or infant chairs, but mine did best in the carrier. It also wound up being one of my fondest memories of early motherhood -- all those hours of close contact, having a sweet baby strapped to my chest as I went for walks or met up with other moms.

But rather than registering for them, I would ask friends if they'd let you borrow (or have) one of their old ones, and try out a few. We got several K'tans from our friends that we used for a while, and then I had tried a sling from a different friend and even though I was unsure about the sling at first, my baby LOVED it and that wound up being what I used for months and months. Eventually I had to switch to Boba 4G (bought on eBay) because the baby was heavy enough that I needed more support and a back option, but it took some time for me to figure out what I needed and would never have known to register for exactly what wound up working.

Ollie swaddle. It seems expensive, but it’s one size and really easy. Also since you don’t have to go around the back, it’s great for transferring the baby from carrier or whatever without waking.

Quick zip crib sheets (the package with 3 top sheets) and 2 waterproof pads, so you can switch them out quickly.

In that same vein, I love the Anna & Eve swaddle strap. It’s snuggly for the baby and works very well to hold down their arms while letting their legs have more movement. We used a sleep sack over that.

If you’re breastfeeding, my top rec is to have a lactation consultant appointment within a day or two of getting home. I saw Margaret from the Breastfeeding Center with both kids (in person with first and telehealth with second during COVID) and think her advice really helped me get on track with my babies and breastfeeding. Highly highly recommend.

A supply of burp cloths. My first spit up a lot so if I didn’t have a burp cloth over my shoulder my shirt was ruined. Then once you start on solids there seem to be constant messes to wipe up.

The gerber prefold cloth diapers are great for this. We have a ton. They are also good to line the towel after a bath, that way sharts don’t get on the towel and you don’t have to wash it every time.

How many do you think is a good supply? I think we have like 15. That’s probably laundry every day though right?

I second a good carrier (or two) and somewhere to put the baby, which can just be a warm place on the floor. My other recommendation...get ZIP sleepers. Certainly don’t get button, I also say no snap. That diaper change at 3 in the morning gets even more frustrating when you can’t figure out how to get little one’s pajamas to fasten together again.

Yes, laundry all the time. Get some oxiclean free and clear and a bucket for soaking poop stains
