Registration/Voting Issues in MD??

Anonymous
Life-long resident in Maryland. Anyone else have issues with their registration? I have voted in the past 5 elections without a problem, then all of a sudden, my name doesn't pop up when I go to vote? I have all the registration information as well. Forced me to make another trip to the polls. I question everything when it comes to gov. services, so thought I would ask the forum.

MD has same-day registration. Why couldn't you register and vote at the same time?

I had no problems voting by mail for the first time, after voting in person for many years.*Have you checked online to see if the information that the Board of Elections has recorded for you is accurate and current?

*Note That my ballot has been received — but not yet accepted, so: fingers crossed.

Why did you have to make another trip to the polls? If you thought you were registered but couldn't be found in the pollbook, then the procedure would be to process you as a new voter through same-day registration. You would then vote as a regular voter if you had ID and proof of residency, or as a provisional voter if you didn't. As a provisional voter, you would have until November 12 to provide your ID and proof of residency to the Board of Elections.

Our family just moved from DC to MoCo. We planned on same-day registration and early voting. The state website said we'd need to bring a driver's license to prove identity, and a current utility bill to prove residency. So we brought our current, valid Real ID compliant driver's licenses from DC and were told they weren't sufficient to establish identity because...well, I have no idea why.

We were allowed to cast provisional ballots, but according to the provisional ballot instructions, we need to submit the following "before 10 am on the 2nd Wednesday after election day":

- A copy of your current and valid Maryland driver's license or MVA ID card; or

- A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document with your name and current address. This address must match the one on your provisional ballot application, and the document must be dated within 3 months of the election.

So, in other words, we need to "submit" exactly the same utility bills we brought to the polls--but submit them, where?

To the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

Your DC license was not accepted as proof of identity because federal law does not allow you to use a DC license to register to vote in Maryland.
