Let's say DC becomes a state next year, what happens to the DC Council?

Surely a state of that size and that many people cannot have just a nine member council. They need to build a full-on legislature. I'm thinking a unicameral, 100 member state legislature for DC.

This post made me very happy. Just the thought that we could be a state brings a downright giddy joy to my soul. And can we have our own prosecutors, judges, etc?

They should make the ANCs into a lower legislature and keep the city council as the senate.

But maybe! There's only 40 ANCs. That could be it.

The North Dakota House has 94 Representatives for the same population (~700,000 people) as DC has.

I doubt statehood will happen anytime soon, especially with the Prop/initiative 81 in the works. It will not look good. And even if house flips, it is not guaranteed. DC is too soft on crime. There are motorcycle gangs that tear through the city daily running red lights, jumping curbs, popping wheelies in front of the police and they just sit there.
