What to Wear in NYC for Casual Girls' Weekend

Anonymous
Heading to Manhattan for girls' weekend--don't want to look Bridge and Tunnel or too frumpy, but it has been a LONG time since I have been in the city. Fairly fashionable, by DC standards, but not NYC. I always feel poorly dressed in New York. Anyone know what the look is for casual evenings out downtown? I am 40, since that sort of matters.

Over-the-knee boots,tights, sweater/coat that goes to mid-thigh.

Leggings, tall boots, fun top or long sweater. Great bag (of course!)

Dress, tall boots, funky tights.

Jeans and fun top, heels, booties, or boots.

Freezing cold there with wind and you'll be doing lots of walking. Avoid dresses and leggings unless you want to freeze to death. Go for dark wash dressy boot-cut jeans with boots, stylish belted puffer coat (or coat with color that goes to knees), great scarf and bag. Don't forget the stylish sunglasses.

Former NYer here. No one wears boot cut jeans anymore! Straight leg (or skinny if you can pull off) jeans, high boots, fitted sweater or cool evening top.

Actually, pants are wider now. Bootcut really big. Skinny is out except if they are jeggings.
