Substitutes?!

What is the PGCPS policy regarding having substitutes when teachers are absent? My child’s elementary teacher has unexpectedly canceled class on a couple of occasions and the kids don’t have class for the day when this happens. Are teachers not required to request a substitute this year or have some type of substitute plan in place so that some type of learning can occur in their absence? If we were in school in person, a substitute would be required, so why not now? I was understanding when this happened the first time, but I feel some type of contingency plan should have been put in place for future occurrences.

We are supposed to report our absence to the admin and go into our absence reporting portal to report it there too. In a normal year, we might get one sub to take jobs at our school. This year, we don't have anyone. How many tech savvy people are sitting around waiting to take a sub job?

My 7th grader has had substitutes several times already this year. They usually take attendance, give the assignments and then have the kids work on them. Once the kids have completed the assignments, they can log off.
