I've seen so many posts about wearing yoga pants this week. Ive been hanging out in PJs and good old fashioned sweat pants. When did the yoga pant revolution start?
I was into yoga about 6-7 years ago, taking a class or two a week at my gym (in another city). One instructor suggested that newbies like me should wear bike shorts and tank tops to have more exposed skin to help facilitate some poses with skin on skin contact. If anyone did wear pants, it was more legging/running tights type pants. I've been thinking about getting back into yoga....but feeling like I defintely would not be one of the cool kids in class if I showed up in my good old sweats or bike shorts. Someone please help clue me in!!

I don't know if I have yoga pants or not. I have two pairs of Nike stretchy running pants (that look great - they somehow make my legs look really lean and long!) but I paid a lot for them and they have holes in them.
And I have a pair of elastic waste pants that are like sweat pant material but don't have the elastic legs, they just flow straight down. I've also worn shorts to yoga in the summer. I wouldn't sweat it! |
| It's a SAHM mom look that mostly SAHMs think look cool (to mostly only them)- I would stick to what you think is fashionable. |
| I agree it's not a good look. And like a bikini not everyone is entitled to wear one. Wear what you feel most comfortable in and what makes you look best. |
LOL! I must have missed that memo when I stayed home last year!

From watching a yoga class (the fitness center at work has a yoga class that is right next to the Elipticals), I think the most important thing in a pant for yoga is not restrictive but will not overly move around (you don't want the waist to fall down, or the pant leg to go flying up when in a weird position. So wear what you would be comfortable in.
I didn't even know what yoga pants were until I googled it (after seeing the fuss of it here). I'm not sure the main "buyers" are doing yoga. I think it's what people now wear when they want a "nice" sweat pant. Target sells a wide variety of sweat pant/yogurt pant type things. I did get one for bumming around the house/walking the dog. I liked that hey had different cuts and different length. |
