Just wondering...
Our neighborhood streets got plowed one crappy time in the middle of the storm and they plows haven't been back since. ALL of the major roads around us are completely cleared and I haven't seen a plow anywhere in DAYS. I have seen the tractor guys who are literally scooping up piles of snow and dumping them to make the lanes wider...but again they are only doing this on the "important" roads. Now that the urgency is gone, why can't the plow trucks come back and do the neighborhood streets one more time? |
| My dad used to drive a City plow (in OH) - he worked for the City "streets department" and when he wasn't plowing, he did street repairs, etc. |
|
OP, what do mean? You sound angry, so you are probably not serious. But with Tuesdays storm, any plows that were in neighborhoods are now:
1) breaking down as we speak 2) getting fixed 3) waiting to get fixed 4) relocating snow in "important parts" of the city |
| OP here. I live in Loudoun County. I'm not really angry - but I have been driving all over the place and it does frustrate me that it seems like there is still a TON of plowing to do and yet I haven't seen a plow anywhere (in all of my driving) since about Monday. |
| Trust me honey. They are all working, but on government contracts, highways, main roads, etc. You are last. |
| OP again...isn't plowing done by county/city? I mean, I don't think the same plows that are in Loudoun also plow Arlington, right? |
|
There are plows on contract from different county agencies, there are plows being used in private companies, etc.
Right now, there is such desperation for plows that the cities and counties are calling everyone with one to come and plow. This is everywhere. It is pretty chaotic right now. |
| Many plows were brought to the area from other states because of the magnitude of this storm. Those plows, not that the emergency is over, probably return to where they are from, to fix things where they live. |

We were at the Comfort Inn in Silver Sp. for two nights (power outage). There was a team there from Delaware/New Jersey here for the entire week to plow. They were really nice guys, going without sleep, meals, missing their families.
I don't really get the anger. Why be mad at the plow drivers? They don't decide which streets to plow. They don't set the budget for snow removal. You strike me as really bitchy. |
| Not only are they done by different government entities, it varies by road. Route 355 (Rockville Pike) for example is a State road. Those are State crews that clear it. The cross streets are County, and private neighborhoods do their own. |
Just wanted to add that they work damned hard. I know nothing is fast enough for folks around here (me included), but those guys are pulling 12 hours shifts and sleeping in motels or their offices, away from their families. I think we should all cut everyone some slack this week. |

I agree. OP sounds annoying and entitled. She even makes it sound like the plow drivers just woke up one morning and went "Oh, there is no more snow falling, let's go watch tv or something, let those other people plow their own streets." Ridiculous. |

OP - you sound fruterated and understandbly so. Don't put your anger on the drivers. They are all working long hours. But I understand your frusteration. In December, our street never got plowed. You are stuck and you come online and all these people are talking about getting out and about and "why do people hate snow" and you are stuck. It's frusterating. You wonder "why you" And you wonder what on earth you do to get a plow to come down your street.
I will say that our county did plow our road this time - after both storms. I wish I had put cash by the door so I could run out and "tip" the plow driver - to make sure he came back ! |
| Maybe they are sanitation workers, since we've been informed there will be no garbage or recycling pickup this week. |
