DC has extended all inspections and registrations until 45 days after the pandemic "ends" . . .
I got a registration renewal email, and I'd actually be fine to do it now because it takes about 5 minutes online. But it tells me I need an inspection (which is true - that's overdue, other than for the pandemic). Seems pretty ridiculous . . . don't really feel like making the trip for an inspection (which is goofy now anyway - it's just a 5 second check to see if your emissions controls are working properly). I'm guessing a lot of folks are now in this situation - what are you doing? Ignoring it all for now, or going to get inspection and then renewing registration? |

I went in on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago. No lines, in/out in 5 minutes.
My issue is that if I do get a ticket for expired registration, fighting the ticket and getting it reversed due to COVID is more hassle than just keeping my car inspected and registered on-schedule. In short, I don’t trust the DC Meter Maids to not f#ck up. Dealing with a ticket during COVID is a lot more hassle than just doing it right. |
This. I would just do it and remove it from your list of things to worry about. Lines are likely to be longer when everybody who put it off goes for an inspection next year. And then you wouldn't have to worry about whether an out-of-state cop would observe DC's extension if you're traveling and get stuck having to show an expired registration. |
