NY Post: School district to dismiss two students for remote-learning from out-of-state

I know several of my students who are doing this. These are not normal times. Families need to support each other. This might mean moving for a time. I have no intention of calling them out.

This is especially awful because this is a single parent. I’m having enough trouble with all this in a two-parent household, I can’t imagine. I‘ve thought about driving across country to be near family for the duration, just to give us some more options. Sounds like this dad was just trying I do right by his kids.

Lesson - why would you tell the school where you are?

Well, kids talk. But it's terrible the teachers reported them.

This is odd. The guy's prime residence is still his original house.

Another example of teachers and school administrators being more focused on making things worse for others rather than better for themselves.

Yep. It's too risky for teachers and staff to worry about the needs of children, but the parent is wrong for trying to make the best of the bad situation. Ridiculous.

Something tells me this isn't entirely true: first it's the post which is slightly less reputable than qanon at this point. Second a district booting students loses funding, so even districts where kids are home-schooling are still trying to get a login a week to keep their funding. They're not booting kids willy nilly.

Good for them. If you move away you need to transfer your kids.

If the kids are not living there it is no longer their primary home.

No sympathy. He’s free to enroll in Missouri or come home. Life is full of sucky choices right now.

I found another article, and I guess the issue is that this district is offering hybrid or DL only. As I think about it, I don't think that it is right for a family to choose online only just to be on vacation or live in another place. I would reach a different conclusion if the only education offered was online.

In addition, there is the issue of the house rental. What if he rented his house to another family whose kids enrolled in the local schools?

Journalistic quality = they say what I want them to say.

If you are renting a house for 9 months, you have move there. That isn't a vacation. Its fine to go on vacation for a week (taking away the covid issue and then its not ok) or even two weeks but that's different then moving for the school year.
