We are considering letting my 13 year old try out for a team for the Spring but are completely new to this. I went on the website and there are SO MANY teams!!! Other than location how does one decide which team to try out for and how do you know which are the better programs?
We are in the McLean/Falls Church area.... |
| Find the ones that are closest to where you live and contact them to figure out if they have room on the team and/or are holding tryouts. You don’t want to be driving all over creation to get to practices, since you already may be traveling further for games and tournaments. NVTBL does not place players or hold tryouts, they just coordinate games among the teams that register with the league. Sometimes though teams will advertise tryouts on the NVTBL website, but I wouldn’t rely on that. |
| Many organizations have already had tryouts and have played this fall. The season is usually goes until mid summer (batting over the winter). You should reach out to clubs to see if they have open slots starting with closest ones. check out nvybl's site |
| So no separate try outs for spring??? |
Yes. Some teams are holding tryouts in the next 2 weeks for Spring, but some organizations only hold tryouts in early summer for an entire year. I know BBA is having tryouts for Spring teams for 13-14 and Summer teams for high school in the next week or so. A lot of their players are based in McLean, Alexandria, DC and some from MD. Practices tend to be closer to where a majority of the players on the team are from - but usually McLean/ Falls Church/ Alexandria area this year with DC shut down. https://bradleybaseballacademia.com/ |
| Does anyone happen to know anything about the Cadets? Is it a decent program? |
They are the SJC affiliated program. I don't think you can play if you don't go to the school. |
Are you talking about Ignite Baseball Cadets? If so, no connection with SJC required. DS trains with coaches at Ignite and really likes all of them. He plays travel elsewhere because Arlington just doesn’t work for us for a regular practice schedule in non-a Covid times. I wish it did as I’ve been impressed with all the coaches there so far. |
Yes...thank you! We will look into them as Arlington isn't too far from McLean. |
