Clinics that use birth control before IVF/egg freezing?

Anonymous
My question stems from a previous thread. I am currently with SGF, and I am hesitant to use birth control but was told it would help ensure even follicle growth. I was wondering if any other clinics also use birth control as part of their protocol, or if this is something used to help with scheduling rather than medical care? Thank you!

I was on birth control for about 10-12 days before both of my retrieval cycles at CFA. I was also told this was to "quiet" the ovaries and ensure even growth.

OP you are not asking anything that wasn’t covered in the first thread. Yes it’s common and yes it’s for ensuring even growth, not just scheduling.

This.
I was part of an online infertility group with dozens of other women located all over the USA and Canada. Nearly all of us were put on BC.

Birth control is wrong for an IVF or egg freezing cycle if you have diminished ovarian reserve.

I had both of my stimulation and collection cycles in Europe, upper 30’s, no BC prior.

Yes I was. I’m 40.

I worked with three different clinic. I used BC in some cycles and not others across all three clinics. It is part of some protocols and not others, depending on the nature of the stimulation they are trying. I hope that you don’t have to try every possible combination like I did and this works for you.

What protocol ended up working for you?

My RE tried estrogen priming protocol with no BC first because I was old with DOR.

She said that BC would help with the timing of the cycle, but might lead to oversupression. Thus, I had to wait until after the holidays were over to start the first cycle because the timing is not predictable.

My RE also said that the estrogen helped ensure even growth of the follicles.

EPP worked for me on the first try, but it was a long time ago. The thinking on the matter may have evolved since then.

Donor eggs. Consider it if you have tried OE IVF a few times. I had three amazing kids in five years once I went that route.
