What do stray cats do in this weather?

Anonymous
We have several outdoor cats in our neighborhood. I think some of them might belong to some families, because at least 1 or 2 wear collars. There are others that are almost certainly feral. What do they do in this weather?? After the first storm last weekend we saw some cat tracks in the snow and it made us wonder what an animal would do during that kind of weather.

Don't know but I saw on the news that animal services was still out and about looking for strays.

I asked this same thing on the squirrel thread. My friend does animal rescues in Texas (where it's not nearly as cold as here...) and she said they always get calls about outdoor dogs and cats on below freezing weather. They can die if they have nowhere to shelter.

I would think feral cats might be able to get up under a house porch where it's dry and hunker down, but it may get too cold for survival even there.

survival of the fittest I would think

Cat people. Aren't they automatically not snowpeople, by definition?
