I just did a drive-by on a couple local satellite voting locations on their first day open... I'm planning to vote next week but if I could have walked in I would have done it today. The lines were out the door, around the block... probably a couple hundred people in the middle of the afternoon at two different sites. I think that's a good sign... just more emphasis that people are jazzed.
The lines at the Fairfax Govt center were still 3 hours last week, too. If people always say that NoVA is blue and needs to be blue enough to counteract the rest of VA, we're in great shape this year. |
| OP again - as an aside, does Fairfax have information on wait times anywhere? |
| I just drove by the McLean location on Balls Hill Rd. Huge line down the block. Of course social distancing makes the line look bigger but I’ve never seen that many people there for early voting. |
| This is also the first time in living memory that anyone is voting during a pandemic. |
| DH and I were planning to go drop off our absentee ballots today. There shouldn't be any lines for that, hopefully. |

The lines this afternoon at Ffx Cnty Gov. Cntr looked like about an hour. I figured the lines at FCGC would drop once the other 14 locations opened up. I'd wait until a Tues/Wed/Thurs next week at the FCGC or any of the satellites.... and best if it is a cold/rainy day! I work at the FCGC and see the lines morning and afternoon.
And if you really don't want to wait in line, you might go on Nov. 3rd! There are over 200 precincts on election day, so there are only 4000-5000 total people who could be voting at any precinct. There are only 15 locations open now... so with 700k possible voters, there are a LOT of people who will be at each early voting station. Or do like I did --- order your ballot on line -- get it in 7-9 days, and drop it off. There is no waiting to drop off a ballot in a drop box. Right now, we are processing on line applications for absentee ballots (i.e. mail ballots) THE SAME DAY! That is crazy fast. So, you could actually get your ballot in 7 days (maybe less). If you are going to request a ballot, do it on line b/c the system will force you to provide the required info. If you print out a form to request a ballot, chances are good that you will screw it up and that will cause a big delay. Pro tip: DO NOT request to have your ballot sent to another location in Fairfax County other than your registered address of record. It will be rejected. If you want it sent to a California address, a Maryland address, an Arlington address -- we can do that. But we cannot send your ballot to another address in Fairfax County -- ONLY your address of record (on your voter registration). |
| I’m just waiting until Election Day. I know, I know, we’re all supposed to vote early. But my regular polling place is just for my neighborhood, and I’ve never had to wait more than about 15 minutes. The early voting is admirable but it’s not going to work for me. |

I went to Mt Vernon today. I got there at 12:30, 30 minutes before polls opened. The first in line had arrived at 6:30.
It took me nearly 4 hours to vote. |
| Drove by the Franconia Government Center. The line stretched all the way down the block, and then up Beulah. |
Curious why you’d assume all those voters are voting for Biden? |
|
Just voted in Mclean. Only took 45 min today.
Saturday around 1pm. |
Oh, and I Voted Trump.... |
| Almost no waiting at Ptovidrnce comm cntr by Vienna Metro. |
I was there a bit later to vote for Biden/Harris. About 45-50 minutes. |
| I voted at Tysons Pimmitt, waited 90 mins |
