| My DS learned how to read during the pandemic and he has embraced his new super power and is devouring books. What chapter books would you recommend for this age? He's into trains, construction vehicles, animals, nature, etc. but also seems to enjoy mystery (Nate the Great) and funny puns (Amelia Bedelia, Dr. Seuss). TIA! |

Cam Jansen by David A. Adler Aunt Eater by Doug Cushman Princess in Black by Shannon Hale (I haven't read these, but I've heard glowing things about them, and it looks like they're the right reading level.) The Mercy Watson books are cute.

My DD hated Owl Diaries. It's hard enough decoding real words, but Owl Diaries has a bunch of made up words (Owltastic, Featherrific, etc...) that were very tough. The text is also all over the page, rather than in straight lines. |

Thank you, all! I have only gone through the first few posts of suggestions plus the Owl Diaries, since DS loves owls, and Katie Kazoo since I couldn't resist a girl role model. I like the Owl Diaries as an example of what a diary is, so he might be inspired to one day do his own. The Magic Treehouse looks great too. Katie Kazoo seems awesome for some semblance of an example of how to navigate social relationships, especially in times of COVID-19. I will check all the other suggestions too, thank you again. - OP
