Fairfax County Ballot Discussion

Anonymous
There is already at least one thread on Question 1 (https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/913565.page), so let's try to keep this thread to discussion of the other questions.

Is there any reason to vote NO on any of the following?

A. Question 2

B. Transport Bonds

C. Parks Bonds

D. Public Library Bonds

E. Community Bonds

The county has been spending too much tax dollars on parks, golf courses, and the animal shelter renovation while schools are neglected. One ES has been closed years ago. It’s time to say No to park renovations and Yes to improve our children’s education.

Any other comments?

Is Q 2 about the disabed vets not paying car tax?

If some people pay no tax, then those who do pay taxes must pay more to cover those who don't pay.

Personally I think vets get tons of benefits already so was not so sold on #2.

I voted no in the community funding thing.
I really wish they would spend more on playgrounds - Fairfax generally has such super boring ones and hardly any cool ones for older kids.

agree, Fairfax spends way too much on open space "parks" but invests very little in playgrounds.

And I'm tired of car tax scofflaws. Every car that 'lives' in VA should be assessed and taxed. I'm tired of military, old people, people who have MD relatives, etc. getting a free ride on the car tax. That's how VA has chosen to support itself and everyone needs to pay up.

meeeee toooo. Our across the street neighbors have two very expensive new cars with Maryland tags that they park in their driveway. Another family on our street has Alaska plates. Both send their kids to public schools.

I’m not voting for any of the bonds. If you want to mostly close stuff to the public (parks, libraries ....) I’m not voting for improvements. Reopen the libraries and parks fully with all/most of the programs and opportunities that used to be offered, then we’ll talk. Until then, no more money.

no to all, they cant even get teachers to teach in person

Yes to the car tax one. That is specifically for veterans with “one hundred percent service-connected, permanent, and total disability” It isn’t for everyone

As to the various bonds, no way. The county has borrowed a ton of money over the past few years, and there needs to be some restraint. My mind was made up when I saw a local ES that has been getting a full renovation (and a substantial addition, courtesy of the bond issue from a few years back) getting fresh new sod rolled out in the area which is the “kiss and ride” Sod is expensive, and the county apparently has no issue pissing borrowed money away on sod for the “kiss and ride” and other areas fronting the road instead of putting down a mixture of grass seed and fertilizer. That would have been a better use of borrowed funds, and there’s no worry of the kids walking on the new grass since nobody is going to be using this nicely renovated school for a while...

Yes on the public library bonds. The county has cut funding for libraries in the past and they are a valuable resource in Fairfax. Since so many people are now looking for work and others are working from home and learning from home the WiFi at the libraries is increasingly indispensable.

I will say NO to everything while I see overgrown weeds and grass along Braddock Rd. near GMU and Mott CC.
