| Ds 14 is 5 4 and pretty well into puberty per bone age. Projection shows him being around 5 6. We just found out this week from endo. He has no idea. He’s very sporty in baseball and basketball. It’s his social outlet but as peers get older I know he will get left behind. I’ve seen it happy. His sporty older brother is 6 1. Tell me he is going to be ok emotionally about this. |
| Ugh. “I’ve seen it happen” not happy. - op |

My son is 5' 2" at 15. He was born premature and has some medical issues, plus his uncle is very short. We have been refused growth hormone several times.
He doesn't know yet how much short stature affects men's professional and private lives. Yes, it's not a ideal situation for him, especially as it's not the only thing he's struggling with. |
| My 15 yr old is around 5' 5" now. He is projected to be somewhere between 5'6' and 5'9". He has short parents so it isn't a surprise. I can tell you that he is not the shortest kid in his class anymore. Last year, when he started 9th grade there was an event at his school and I was amazed to see boys shorter than he was. I had never seen that before. |
The average adult male in the USA is 5'9", so he won't be too far off, PP. We're talking about boys who won't ever come near the average. |
|
I guess I just don't see this terrible bias against short men in real life. The CEO of my company is about 5'6". I work with 2 men who are about 5'7"-- both lovely men with successful careers and attractive wives. I work with another man who is what I consider very short, about 5'4", he is also successful at work and married.
TBH, I find the handwringing over short but healthy children to be really tiresome. If this is your biggest worry, you are supremely lucky in life. - average height woman with a 5'1" mother, a 5'0" SIL, a 5'6" nephew (age 18), and a 4'11" best friend. |
Because the men you describe aren’t that short. What would you say of a man less than 5’4”? |
+1 I find it offensive as a short woman with a short husband and short kids. We are fine, successful, happy people. Should we be ashamed of ourselves and hide because we are shorter than average? |
Short people tend to live longer. My grandfather was 5’3 and lived to be 101. He lived a very fulfilling rich life as a “short” man. |
| When they grow up they won’t become entitled self-centered guys and they won’t attract superficial needy girls. So that’s a good thing. |
Or he might be 5 ft 6in which is what the OP is worried about. I’m not. He’s taller than I am so it’s all good. |
Agree |
| OP, I am a short man, and my kids are short. It's fine. We are lucky in some ways and not in others. Teach your kid that life is a mix of things, good and bad. Overcome the bad, maximize and enjoy the good. That's a recipe for a happy life - regardless of height. |
| I get all that. My biggest concern is sports in hs. He loves playing sports. Loves loves. His height is going to put him at a disadvantage no matter his skill level. I do worry. |
There are lots of sports out there. My DS used to fence and he regularly beat fencers much taller than he was. Small kid=smaller target. Plus he was quick. |
