Preschools Closing Nov-Jan due to COVID Safety

Anonymous
I heard Beauvoir and other independent schools and maybe even preschools are closing from Thanksgiving to January. This is to be safe since families travel or see family members from hot states and then they'll need to quarantine for 14 days. Is your school following this latest plan of action?

Preschools that are still around are not closing during this time. Don’t know about Beauvoir.

Mine is not. They are trusting us to use good judgement and self-quarantine if we choose to travel to a hot spot.

I like being treated like an adult again.

Huh? How is this reasonable? Do they not realize that parents work during those months and need childcare?

My kid’s preschool has been open the entire time with exactly 1 case (a teacher who didn’t spread it to anyone else). I would be livid if they closed from Thanksgiving to January, absent any cases.

No. No quarantine following domestic travel either. We're in Arlington.

That’s bonkers- we had no intention of visiting family for the holidays this year but were our preschool to shut down we would then.

I feel the same way. If the kids are going to be off for weeks anyway why not travel to see family?

Ironically, keeping the preschools open would probably lessen travel.

That’s crazy but on the other hand I completely understand them. It’s only one month and they are doing it because you know families will be traveling and not quarantining. They don’t want to become a potential coronavirus hub.

It’s disappointing how the fear of the irresponsible few impact the majority of responsible people.

Our school asked parents what they think about this extended closure plan since the consultants said some schools around the world are doing it.

The results of the survey said most parents want to come to school as planned and those who travel will quarantine for 14 days before they return to school.

This is super reasonable. I'd like to tell the director of my school about this. Is there anything more you can share? People who travel ANYWHERE will quarantine? Are you comfortable sharing which school? Do the kids and teachers wear masks inside and outside at your school?
