I want to go to a park that requires masks

Anonymous
We live in Arlington. The parks near us are super crowded. Whether folks wear masks depends on the park and the time of day. But I’m just DONE with showing up at a park with my three year old only to find it overrun with people and no one is wearing masks. I understand that many people think masks aren’t necessary. I want to go to a park where everyone (over the age of 2) is wearing a mask. It seems safer to me when kids are packed into a small mark and are playing in tight spaces. Does DC require masks for kids outside? If so, which parks should we try? What would be a fun park but not too crowded? Are there any towns in Virginia that require masks outside and for kids? Or anywhere where that’s what people do just as a social contract?

Just go to a park that's not crowded. There are lots of them in Fairfax and several that I know of in Arlington.

Bluemont Park is massive. You can easily carve out a big chunk of chunk space without getting anywhere near anyone. It's pretty easy to stay away from people in Quincy, too.

I think wants a playground. Not just a field.

I would try different outdoor options than just playground parks. This website has good ideas:

If playing fields are an option, bring a soccer ball or some other outdoor toys like stomp rockets.

This is OP. I meant a playground. Sorry. It’s not easy to stay away from people at Quincy or Rocky Run. Those places are packed!

I'd support this. Mainly because it'd help clear up the debate. And people who are kinda on the fence, will wear them because it's required. Playgrounds, over 2, required for all.

Obviously no one would enforce it. But I wouldn't mind at all.

I live in NE DC so way out of the way for you, but we have probably 6 playgrounds that we walk to regularly within a mile of our house. We go early (the ones that have locked gates are unlocked at 8 so if we go before 8 we go to ones that aren’t gated) during the week and rarely is there more than 1-2 other families.

After 10am they all start to get crowded. After lunch/nap, forget it. All crowded and no masks.

We mostly avoid the playground on the weekends.

Ok, they aren't required and people stopped caring so what you want doesn't matter either. Get a swing set.

DC requires masks. Maybe not everyone uses them, but they are legally required.

Plus, OP lives in a densely populated area. Those of us in less densely populated areas don't have this issue.

This is OP again. I’d put the swings set where in my apartment? Like I said in my post, I completely get it that people differ on whether they think masks outside are necessary. But I don’t actually get it that folks don’t understand that many of us live in apartments. Our children don’t have yards. Or swingsets. I can choose to keep my child at home. I can’t choose to let her play in the yard because we don’t have one. That would be lovely if we did.

I thought maybe Falls Church or somewhere would have an ordinance requiring it, but it sounds like no.
