Seasonal Allergies

At what age did your child start getting seasonal allergies? Mine just turned 5 and the sneezing/ runny nose combo but feels great otherwise. FWIW we did a COVID test and it was negative. I gave him a Benadryl and it didn't seem to help. Just curious when kids typically begin getting seasonal allergies.

My kids seasonal allergies started at 6 months. Zyrtec daily, steroids and nasal sprays. I had them allergy tested around 4 and the allergiest confirmed.

We got air purifier to put in DCs’ rooms, it made them feel better, allergy medicine didn’t work for kids since it’s too gentle and not strong enough, please it’s not healthy to take it daily.

Sorry for the typo, I mean Plus it’s better not to take allergy medicine too often.

If Benadryl isn't helping, maybe he just has a cold then?

Around 4 or 5. Children’s Claritin works well for DS.

Usually children do not start to get seasonal allergies until they've been exposed to a few seasons. So 3 or older is usually the earliest.

OP here. Thanks. Zyrtec worked wonders.

Most doctors doubted my kids had allergies when they were 5 months but they underestimated how much time we spend outside and how much we travel. My oje kid broke out on head to toe hives at 18 months. I'm the earlier poster with the zyrtec at 6 months. My kids have food and seasonal allergies.

Oldest around eight, youngest a little later. We gave them Claritin for years and then our pediatrician said to switch to Xyzal and it’s much better. Oldest also needs Flonase on really bad days.

About 7. Claritin, zyrtec and xyzal all work well. we also got an air purifier. He also started allergy shots recently. Right now he's taking the meds every night b/c the allergies interupt his sleep.

Age 3 for spring pollen allergies. But Kindergarten and first grade was when the allergies really started getting worse. Now he has spring allergies, summer allergies and fall allergies. Basically constant allergies from April - early November. But mild symptoms--runny nose and sneezing, itchy eyes. No cough or other symptoms.
