My question is, are people actually doing this? I would never plant a microchip in my kids. I can sort of understand for Alzheimer patients, whose unfortunate demise is already set in, but come on - do you think this method is really going to take off?

OP here -- I don't really care one way or another. I just think that anyone who thinks this is a sign of the anti-Christ is a moron.

I for one would gladly allow my employers to implant a microchip in my head, I think most americans would do the same.

We already work like dogs all the time. Hopefully a chip could extinguish that small part of our brain that keeps on nagging at us, telling us there should be more to life.

If microchips are not already in prosthetic limbs, they soon will be. Similarly heart pumps and blood sugar monitors for diabetics. And, while our cell phones and similar devices are not implanted, they are functionally part of many of us.

Precisely because the technology is here, there ought to be debate about how they are used. Bringing Revelations into the discussion draws attention away from the fact that this may be a serious issue.

OP here. Exactly, pp. Well-put!

OP again. Besides, dh just pointed out that serious Christians ought to want the end times to come so they can all go right to heaven while the rest of us sinners suffer a miserable end. So shouldn't they want microchips implanted in people if that is indeed a sign of the apocalypse?

Is "lipstick on a pig" a subliminal reference to the end times -- a pork o' lips?

For those WHO believe in the Bible;

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark"
Revelation 13:16-17

Martin Luther, who WAS a believer, wrote in his preface to Revelations: "I can in no way detect that the Holy Spirit produced it."

The "mark" seems to be some sort of vendor license. What does that have to do with religion?

A couple of hilarious comments from the WaPo:
So put it in the left arm -- no problem!
Then only dogs and cats will be able to buy and sell. There will be payback big time!

Well you know the bible also says that the end comes when you least expect it. So if you think you are seeing signs of the apocalypse, then it's most likely not coming.

On the other hand, if you relaxed your literal interpretation of the bible and assumed that the mark affixed on head or arm was metaphorical, then you might read this passage to describe credit cards, in which case they did kinda get the apocalypse rolling.

After 2,000 years you would have thought these imbeciles would give up waiting for the end times. But I guess there is no statute of limitations on stupidity.
