My baby is about to grow out of the Mamaroo as she is getting more active and I fear might fall/roll out. I use it a lot to just put her near me but keep her contained and entertained. She has a really big head so isnt yet fully sitting up on her own for long stretches, she does roll.
What should I put my baby in that will last for a bit. Baby bjorn? Activity center? Lie her on her back on the tummy time mat? (she hates being on her tummy but we do it daily as an activity). |
| Whats a bit? She should be in anything more than 10 min at a time anyway. |
| I mostly had her on a blanket with a couple of toys. If I had to step away for a second, I’d put her in the pack n play or crib. |
| Just put her on the floor. Maybe an activity mat or blanket. Make sure things are babyproofed. |
|
The bit I referred to was months of use. Baby is 4m. I’d like to buy at most one more thing before baby will be old enough to just sit on floor and play with toys.
Kid definitely sits in various items for longer than 10 minutes at a time - mamaroo and stroller. We use the Mamaroo turned off a lot; kid stares at the balls above. We are not attachment parents though baby gets held and cuddled plenty. |

Um. The FLOOR.
Seriously, just a mat or blanket, baby needs to stretch his body and move if he’s going to reach his gross motor milestones.... |

| She should be doing a TON of tummy time. That's why she isn't sitting up yet, nothing to do with her big head. |
I mean, the kid is 4 months old. Not sitting up now is absolutely normal. That said, I agree with others that she should be doing more floor time in general. OP, people aren't criticizing extended use of these devices because of attachment parenting, it's because babies need to have free space to encourage movement that develops muscle and coordination. |
| Why does interest in a seat or play center mean OP isnt doing tummy time? LOL |

I don't want to add to the snark but I am going to echo that you don't need a seat for her. If she is active enough that you worry about her rolling out of the mamaroo, you will have the same issue with almost anything else except maybe a bouncer swing, and that would require her to be able to sit up anyway.
Put her on a blanket on the floor. Yes, tummy time is good, but so is lying on her back. If you are worried about keeping her contained, you can get one of those flexible play pen things with the walls, though honestly I never bothered. With one kid it's not that hard to keep track of them. Make sure there is a small variety of toys, books, and other baby safe objects nearby, and just let her explore. She will move at her own pace in terms of sitting up, rolling, pulling up, etc. Just let her go and see how it develops. |

Baby is mostly on the floor on an activity my, but We got this recently. Baby loves it. I only keep her in it for 10-15 min at a time. I like that it converts to a toddler table and doesn’t take up too much room!

Hi OP! My baby is 6 months and does a TON of floor time and is already crawling, sitting and attempting to pull herself to stand. Not bragging just saying I don’t think “devices” hurt babies as long as they get plenty of that too!
Since about 4 months I have used a standing activity center/bouncer to keep her contained and she totally loves it. There will be naysayers on dcum but my older kid used this too until walking age (12-14 months) and it had zero negative impact in terms of development. She is in it usually short periods but up to maybe 30 mins occasionally (if I’m making a dinner or something that requires constant monitoring and need her to not be crawling all over). She also loves standing in it while my 2 year old runs around and he’ll sometimes go over and dance with her or whatever. It’s great! Yes, I had one of these for my youngest and it was great. We also got one of those play yards that are plastic with a little door. It was bigger than something like a pack n play so they can roll or crawl around and play with toys and be safe. Before my kids were able to crawl they would roll right out of the room, this kept them a little contained but they could still roll around. |
