I feel it is time for my 18 year old to move on. I am looking for ar reccomendation in the Rockville area. My Dr is female and probably going to retire soon. Anyone have a favorite for their college age son. Thanks.

Pediatric Care Center in Bethesda. They have a teen & young adult center on a separate floor. Dr. Kornfeld is fantastic.

Pp here. Sorry, I misread your post. If you want a male doctor, my boys see Dr. Mattey and love him.

Umm your 18 year old should start seeing a regular doctor... Not a pediatrician...

Read before posting. That is what the question was for-a doctor to replace the pediatrician.

Thanks.. a young adult practice might be perfect as by 26 he will (fingers crossed) be off on his own somewhere.

Have him do the leg work on this. Part of becoming an adult is taking on these things.

Once you get a name, give it to him and have him call and make the appointment and follow through.

NP. Our pediatrician says she (and many pediatricians) commonly see their patients as those patients become young adults of college age. These are young adults who are coming home only part of the year and it's not always easy to get on board with a good, new practice. Also, there is no "turn 18 and go to the general practitioner" rule--it's a choice by the patient and the practice.

When DD was 17 we asked our pediatrician about this and that's what we were told.

Bonus: Our pediatrician knows our 19-year-old's DD's medical history, knows DD very well (and knows things such as, DD has high tolerance for pain etc., details like that).

I'm NOT saying everyone should stay with a pediatrician -- I'm just noting that ped practices often will continue seeing their patients at age 18 and a bit beyond into college age.

+1 Dr. Weiner is our favorite. 19 year old DS goes to him.

You have to pay an annual fee for One Medical, but it is really easy to navigate. The office is responsive and it’s easy to schedule online. Would be a good starter for a young adult to make his own appointments etc.

How does your kid feel?

Mine really liked staying with the ped until the end - he's turning 21. He felt the care was good enough to cope wiith all the little kid stuff and he didn't want a change during the move to college.

Good doctors can be hard to find.

OP again. Just tried to make an appointment with Pediatric Care Center but they are not a BCBS provider. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Tell your kid to ask for a referral.
