Introducing new foods -4 year old

Anonymous
My 4 year old is a really healthy eater but is stubborn about trying new foods. It turns into a huge power struggle. What tips do you have?

You can't force your kid to way something. The most that's appropriate to do is to continue to offer it and model eating it yourself. Stop making a show of it and they'll come around.

Keep putting a few little bits of new things on their plate with zero coaxing or pressure. No excessive praise when they do eat. No comment when they don't eat. Keep offering and providing exposure to different foods. At different times they might touch it, sniff it, poke at it, lick it etc. Might take putting it on their plate 40 times before they actually eat it. The more you push, the more they dig their heals in and associate meal time as something negative.

I would follow kids eat in color on Instagram. And big little feelings also has great tips on this, watch their highlight on it. The key is exposure alongside safe foods with NO pressure. It may take awhile, but it’s what has been shown to work.
