How do we donate to help fund all the litigation over voter suppression?

I’m talking about massive umbers of small donations. Grassroots. Who normally pays and where do the funds originate? Thx

No one on this board currently seems to know. Maybe they don't care - until January, when it's too late?

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Thursday said each of the state’s counties could provide only one mail-in ballot drop-off location for the November election, a proclamation that quickly spurred criticism and a legal threat from Democrats and election officials.

The executive order, which amended a July 27 order by Abbott that expanded early voting and absentee ballot drop-offs, cites election security as the reason counties must close sites that were already collecting early ballots. The news was immediately seized on by critics who threatened legal challenges and argued the change does not prevent fraud but hurts populous cities that are Democratic strongholds. Texas Democrats called Abbott’s move “a blatant voter suppression tactic.”

“Republicans are on the verge of losing, so Governor Abbott is trying to adjust the rules last minute,” state Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa said in a statement. “Make no mistake, Democracy itself is on the ballot. Every Texan must get out and vote these cowards out!”

Pennsylvania’s Republican legislative leaders asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday to stop a decision by the state’s high court to count mail-in ballots received up to three days after Election Day.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled in Democrats’ favor on a number of mail-voting rules: permitting voters to turn in ballots via drop box in addition to using the U.S. Postal Service; allowing ballots to be returned up to three days after Election Day; and blocking a Republican effort to allow partisan poll watchers to be stationed in counties where they do not live.

Pennsylvania legislators will fight ruling easing election restrictions

The legislators asked the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in only on the ruling pushing back the deadline for mail ballots to arrive. The state court said such ballots must be counted if they are postmarked by Nov. 3 — and even if they are not, “unless a preponderance of the evidence” shows that the ballots were mailed after Election Day. The state Republican Party later filed a similar stay request.

Yup. There are 300 active lawsuits in 44 states right now, according to The Daily, NYT.

I'd imagine the DNC usually foots the bills, but I'm not sure.

South Carolina Republicans are asking the Supreme Court to reinstate witness signature requirements for mail-in ballots after an appellate court ruling upheld a federal judge’s decision to waive the requirement for the Nov. 3 election amid the coronavirus pandemic.

South Carolina Democrats brought a lawsuit over the requirement, highlighting concerns about voter participation due to the coronavirus, The State reported.

So small dollar donations to the DNC might help? Just trying to help make a small contribution to ensuring that the frivolous litigation does not disenfranchise people. We need everyone this year, more than ever.

Mark Elias seems to be on the front lines of all of these cases for the Democrats.

The bigger question, why don't the republicans like voting? It is ponderous.

I care A LOT and have been following this stuff for a long time, and post a ton of links with cases in the voter suppression and vote by mail threads. But I actually don’t know the answer. PP is right that Marc Elias handles a ton of this litigation - I may tweet at him to see if I can find out. Certainly the ACLU is a good answer - and we give to them monthly - but I don’t know if that’s the only one. If it’s the DNC that would make me donate to them - I haven’t in a while. It could be also be the Biden campaign. Would love to know the answer if someone has better info.

Thanks. I think campaigns still need cash, but the monetary need seems to be shifting quickly to respond to the dramatic uptick in litigation from now through early December. I’d start a GoFundMe to help, but I’m afraid it would create more problems than solve. So looking for a way to target funds and build a grassroots effort that can help with this aspect of the Election. This cycle there’s more need than ever before. I’d rather have dramatic, bare-knuckled litigation than in the streets, which is where I’m afraid this might be heading.
